Who Needs to Renew?

All Certified Internal Auditors (CIAs) must renew their certification periodically to maintain their credential and demonstrate their commitment to continuous professional development.

Renewal Requirements

1. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credits

The IIA requires CIA holders to earn:

  • 40 hours of CPE per year (for practicing CIAs)
  • 20 hours of CPE per year (for non-practicing CIAs)
  • At least 2 hours in ethics training annually


CPE credits can be earned through:
